An experimental apparatus and protocol for the selective flotation of dissolved ions suitable for use in undergraduate laboratories is described. The system may be used to illustrate the application of ion-exchange equilibria, kinetics, and surface chemistry to real-life problems in areas as diverse as environmental chemistry and mineral processing. Rather than describing a particular experiment in detail, we have described the equipment used and outlined the various ways in which it might be applied at a range of undergraduate levels to make the connection between fundamental chemical understanding and a variety of applied problems.

Our Secondary School editors work hard to distill all the JCE materials to produce a fraction of particular interest to high school teachers. We call it CLIC.
In recent years we have worked hard to better match our advertisers with our readers. When shopping for chemistry education materials, visit our advertisers' WWW sites first.
Take JCE along on your outreach missions. Copies of the Journal, guest access to JCE Online, our publications catalog, and more are available for your participants.
