The optical transparency of a cellulose membrane in the UV region is equivalent to that of a high-quality quartz plate. A simple preparative method to obtain UV absorption spectra of sunscreens over two length regions, UVB and UVA, is presented with some experimental results obtained using a Visking tubular membrane. The thickness of the optical path can be controlled by simple squeezing at the surface of the membrane holding the creamy sample in the tubular space on a flat plate.
Our Secondary School editors work hard to distill all the JCE materials to produce a fraction of particular interest to high school teachers. We call it CLIC.
In recent years we have worked hard to better match our advertisers with our readers. When shopping for chemistry education materials, visit our advertisers' WWW sites first.
Take JCE along on your outreach missions. Copies of the Journal, guest access to JCE Online, our publications catalog, and more are available for your participants.
